Through studio exercises and projects, students will be exposed to the field of architecture and the fundamentals of the three-dimensional design process. Students will be asked to utilize many skills including active field research, schematic drawings, and model making to solve both conceptual and real architectural problems. This introduction to the design process will help students develop the technical skills and concepts that will allow them to approach issues of scale, form, spatial relationships, and to interpret the built environment around them. Field trips to a design firm and architecturally significant sites will expose students to the life and work of professional architects.
