Summer Intensive Studies: New York

Enroll in Summer Intensive Studies: New York and discover an exceptional academic program enriched by the vast resources of New York. Whether you're a high school student preparing to apply to undergraduate programs, a college student complementing current degree studies, or an adult investigating career objectives, our courses will help you in defining and attaining your future goals.

This intensive four-week, four-credit program is open to all students who wish to deepen their knowledge of art and design in a rigorous academic environment. Students spend five full days a week in studio classes complemented by demanding homework assignments. Coursework is supplemented by career-oriented programs, including portfolio reviews, alumni career panels, and industry guest lecturers.

Exploring New York
Additional activities are scheduled outside of class time and provide an opportunity to become acquainted with one another and New York City. Students are encouraged to take advantage of the full range of opportunities provided by the city, including some of the world's most important museums, galleries, design studios, and libraries.

Professional Faculty
Courses are taught by Parsons faculty, supplemented by a number of New York-based artists and designers. Guest lecturers and critics present on current professional practices and trends from their respective disciplines.

Campus and Classrooms
Most classes are held at the Greenwich Village campus at Fifth Avenue and 13th Street. Digital classes take place in the University Computer Center at 55 West 13th Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. Most fashion design classes are conducted at the Parsons Fashion Design Center at Seventh Avenue and 40th Street, a short subway ride from the downtown campus and dorms. The Greenwich Village campus also houses the Gimbel Design Library and the cafeteria.

Supplies
Students are expected to provide their own art supplies. A list of required and recommended materials is distributed by the faculty for each course. Expenses for most courses are estimated at $400. Lockers are provided for storage during the program.
