On November 14, Project Runway, the popular Emmy-nominated fashion design reality show filmed at Parsons, began its fourth season on Bravo. The program chronicles a competition between 15 fashion designers, with the winner receiving a cash prize of $100,000 to start his or her own line and the opportunity to sell a fashion line on Bluefly.com. The show features supermodel Heidi Klum as host and a panel of industry luminaries as judges, including designer Michael Kors, Elle fashion director Nina Garcia, and Tim Gunn, chief creative officer at Liz Claiborne, Inc., and honorary chair of fashion design at Parsons.
Three of this season’s contestants are graduates of the Fashion Design program at Parsons, and a fourth studied at the Parsons affiliate in Paris. Jack Mackenroth studied at Parsons and subsequently opened a menswear store in New York working for such brands as Tommy Hilfiger, Slates, and Weatherproof Active Wear, where he is now employed. Jillian Lewis, ’03, was honored with the CFDA scholarship award and was featured as “Parsons Design Star” on the MTV college network while a student at Parsons. She is currently working on her own label while consulting for several companies as a designer. Marion Lee, ’91, received the Silver and Gold Thimble awards as a student at Parsons. After graduating, he worked as visual director of Stanley Korshak in Texas, where he produced custom work for the retailer as well as his own line, which he has shown for several seasons in New York.
