Requirements

Applicants who wish to be considered for a Dean’s Scholarship should submit a complete application packet by February 1st. After February 1st applications will be considered on a rolling basis. Applicants must submit the following directly to the School of Constructed Environments unless otherwise noted. For additional information please visit the SCE website. The address for mailing application materials related to the MFA LD graduate program is: Graduate Admissions, School of Constructed Environments, Parsons The New School for Design, 66 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10011. Parsons Graduate Programs use the “Self-Managed Application Process.” Submit your application online, and submit any supplemental mailed application materials to the Admission Office in one packet, whenever possible. Include a Materials Cover Sheet, which can be downloaded from the Supplemental Forms section of the online application.

  1. Application: Complete the online application.
  2. Application Fee: $50 non-refundable application fee is required. Only credit cards are accepted using the online application.
  3. Official Transcripts: Have original, sealed copies of your official college transcripts sent to you, for submission with your application packet, or, if that is not possible, have your institution send transcripts directly to Graduate Admissions, School of Constructed Environments. Photocopies are not acceptable. International Records: All applicants with international transcripts are required to submit an original transcript, a certified English language translation, and a Course-By-Course Evaluation Report with their supporting materials. These course-by-course reports are prepared by World Education Services (www.wes.org), our preferred provider, or another member of the National Association of Credit Evaluation Services (NACES). We recommend that you start the evaluation process, including submission of all required documents to WES (or another provider), as early as possible, in order to ensure the timely completion of your evaluation report. Request that your report be sent to Graduate Admissions, School of Constructed Environments, Parsons The New School for Design, 66 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10011. (If you apply online, search for “New School Parsons” when requesting our institution.) If another provider is unable to send the report directly to the school, please collect and send the evaluation report along with a Materials Cover Sheet.
  4. A brief resume (c.v.) including appropriate work experience, travel, exhibitions, etc., must be submitted online. List dates and positions held.
  5. Statement of Interest and Intentions must be submitted online.
  6. Two letters of recommendation from faculty or people with whom the applicant has worked professionally. These may be submitted by the references online, or, you may forward sealed references with your application packet.
  7. If English is the applicant’s native language, submit scores of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and general tests (Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical Writing).
  8. If English is not an applicant’s native language, then he or she must submit results of the TOEFL exam (the Test of English as a Foreign Language). Students required to take the TOEFL exam may obtain further information from the Educational Testing Service site. Minimum score required for unqualified acceptance to the program is 620 written (260 computer based, or 105 internet based). A TOEFL score between 580 and 619 is acceptable but requires mandatory English coursework during the first year of study. A score lower than 580 written (237 computer based, or 92 internet based) is not acceptable.
  9. A portfolio that may include drawings and photographs of projects, and samples of other artwork. Your mailed portfolio must be bound in book form, no larger than 9”x12” or A4. All mailed materials must be accompanied by a Materials Cover Sheet, available in the Supplemental Forms section of the online application. Do not include elaborate excess packaging. Do not include slides or digital media.

Graduate students are automatically considered for merit scholarships as part of the admission process. If you are a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen and want to be considered for financial aid, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which can be found on the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov
